Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre understands the importance of smooth transitions for children in our service.   We support children in their transition from preschool to primary school in particular.

Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre have built good relationships with local schools in the area and each year we communicate with them (with parental consent) regarding the children who will be transitioning from our school to theirs. We complete an end of year report form that we share with both parents and future primary schools so that all stakeholders understand the position at which their child starts school and how the child’s needs will be best met going forward.   We have also developed a transitions book within the preschool which contains pictures of schools in the local area and the children’s future teachers.

We have been fortunate to welcome primary school teachers into our service so the children have the opportunity to meet with their new teacher in their own environment before we visit their new perspective school.

We have found in previous years the prospect of starting ‘big’ school is always on the mind our senior children as we near the end of our academic year.  To support this, we transform our role play area to become 'Big school' where the children have the opportunity to express their feelings and thoughts about the transition.

Through our partnership with parents and local primary schools, the children are well prepared to begin the next chapter of their education journey and very much so look forward to it.
